Monday IS a special day. It marks the start of the week and opens a door on all the fabulous things waiting for you during the week.

I have a crazy, busy week ahead of me but I would not have it any other way.

Hang on a minute, I need to take my jumper off.

That's better. It's hot here in the studio. Typical grotty February day outside but hot here. Jumper off and heating

turned down let's get started.

Today's Monday Morning Medical Moment will tell the world what a sad, pathetic, miserable coward I am.

On Wednesday I will be donating a pint of my blood. I do this three times a year. Yesterday I received a text from the Blood Donor Agency, it said I am a hero.

NO I AM NOT.

I am sad, pathetic, miserable coward. On Wednesday I will be donating my 23rd pint. That picture, left, was taken when I was a student. The Matron of my college received a badge for donating 50 pints. She invited we students to go with her to donate blood.  I wasn't having a needle stuck in my arm and blood drained off. NO WAY.

I am determined to live long enough to get my badge for donating 50 pints. Donating three times a year it will be February 2028 when I get there. If I had not been such a sad, pathetic, miserable, snivelling coward all those years ago Wednesday would be my 134th donation NOT a sad 23rd.

One year ago on Friday, I received a telephone call from Milton Keynes Winter Night Shelter.....

"Get your friends to the council, they can be given accommodation but be quick, do not delay !"

Those who know me know my friends Josh aka The Eternal Teenager and Jelena aka Mrs Josh. Those who know me know why I am so passionate about the plight of the homeless.

My show on Wednesday is to be given over entirely to raising awareness for The Food Bank

I play music to make people smile, to be happy and to inspire support for good causes.

If this week I can persuade one person who is currently not a blood donor to sign up the music will be a success.

If I can get one person to show love to a homeless person the music will not have been played in vain.

If I can get one person to donate one tin to The Food Bank it will be a good week,

That was Number One on 8th February 1964. On Friday my show will feature the Top Thirty from that day.

February 1964, I was just about a teenager with the whole of my life ahead of me.  February 2019 and I am the Geriatric DJ.

I would love to be 13 again BUT ONLY IF I COULD HAVE WITH ME THE LIFE EXPERIENCE I ENJOY AS A 68 YEAR OLD.

I have done some crazy things in my life, crazy but fun.

I need to live to be at least one hundred and ten years years of age to do all the crazy things on my agenda.

Life is a lot more fun if you are silly.

If I could have my life again would I be a hippie ?

Possibly.

Next week I am cancelling my Thursday show, Wake Up With The Classics.  I will be broadcasting a special show in its place - CLASSIC LOVE.

That was the wedding song just over forty years ago when I

married the love of my life.

No I do not want to become a teenager again. If I did I may not meet Maureen, without her life would not be worth anything at all.

Building a playlist for a future radio show I have been asking friends what was their most memorable song from when they were at school. This is mine.....

It was sung in the leavers assembly at school in July 1967. Once sung an arrogant teenager walked out of the gates, turned round and made a particularly rude gesture to the school then started adult life.

I hated school, hated every minute of it as my SCHOOL BOY AUTOBIOGRAPHY written under the pen  name of Max Robinson explains.

Strange that I should end up spending my working life as Head of Year In a large comprehensive school. Perhaps I would have been better working as a DJ on a pirate radio station.

I HATED school but I loved being a student. This next piece of Monday Morning Music Mega Mix was read as a poem on freshers day, it has remained with me through the decades and is central to my philosophy on life.

I play music to make people smile, be happy and to inspire support for good causes.

If this week one person becomes a blood donor, if one person shows love to a homeless and rough-sleeping friend, if one person donates one tin to the Food Bank my music will not have been played in vain.

When I was a student it was impossible to walk anywhere in the halls of residence without this next song playing from someone's room.

That is the greatest piece of music ever written. I have tried, since the day I first heard it, to live my life like a bridge over troubled water. People say to me: David you can not solve all the problems of the world on your own.  It does not stop me trying though does it ?  If we all lived our lives like bridges over troubled waters all of the problems in this beautiful world of ours would be instantly resolved.

So that's my Monday Morning Music Mega Mix.  just one thing left to say: LIFE IS A DISCO SO DANCE !

Stowe in the snow

I  play music to make people smile, to be happy and to inspire support for good causes.

I play music on the radio (10 hours a week), on YouTube, on my website, here on the daily blog and, most importantly, in the community.

Providing they meet my personal view as to what constitutes a good cause, the more good causes I can play my music for the better.

Yesterday Maureen, Jake and I got into the car and headed to The National Trust at Stowe near Buckingham. Hardly a week goes by when we do not visit Stowe. We both thought it would be great to see Stowe in the snow.

Once the home of The Duke of Buckingham, Stowe features right at the end of my novel THE BRIDGE HOUSE.

In the run up to Christmas I was pleased to promote Carols In The Courtyard at Stowe.

Now I have a couple of ideas to help support The National Trust Stowe with the music I play.

Stowe is an English Country Garden but to quote The National Trust - GARDENING ON A GRAND SCALE.

The Operations Manager at Stowe is a great guy and a good friend - Scott.

Scott, could I persuade you to be a GUEST ON A RADIO SHOW ?

I have an idea for a show which I will call MUSICAL STATUES. I will play a selection of music then each time the music stops you tell our listeners about a statue, temple or folly in the park.

You and I could build up the playlist from our favourite tracks.

Scott, what kind of music are you into ?

It's in the playlist for my Radio Disco supporting Milton Keynes Winter Night Shelter.

Following Eddie The Eagle supporting the project with an autographed DVD as a spot prize I have a few more things to hand out to listeners.

Given that our Radio Disco is locked into the 24 hour football game supporting Milton Keynes Winter Night Shelter I thought this book would be a good prize.

I have also got something from the days of Pirate Radio and in particular Radio Caroline.

How about that ?

This is the Temple Of The British Worthies at Stowe.

Dating back to 1734 it celebrates those who had contributed significantly to the British way of life.

For a couple of years I have had the idea to come up with a new temple, not  physical building but a drawing/painting of 20th century worthies. 

Who would you include ? I could then build a show around them with a suitable piece of music for each.

I would most certainly include this lady.  I am looking forward to having a guests on a show in a couple of weeks who knew Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

Let's play some music for her shall we ?  Sorry, I know I have played this a lot recently but I like it. YES it is in the playlist for the Radio Disco.  Do you approve Mam.

Meet MP for Buckingham and Stowe, John Bercow Speaker of The House of Commons.

In the past I have had dealings with John, he's a great guy. Why can't we take a bit of advice from Mr Speaker as to who we could feature.

I wonder what kind of music Mr Speaker is into.

Fanfare For The Common Man - that's something I have been meaning to play on the radio for some time. I actually have the original in my vinyl collection.

Pictured left is a creepy looking building within the grounds at Stowe.  It has inspired a story within me, THE LONELY GHOST. Perhaps one day I will get round to writing it.

No, it's not that kind of ghost. If I ever get round to writing the story it will be a children's book.

Maureen, Jake and I had a great afternoon at Stowe yesterday.

Friday and my time machine is going back to 8th February 1964 for PICK OF THE POPS. I am not going to tell what was at number one, you'll have to wait for the show but this was at number twenty-two.

It wasn't the easiest drive, the twelve miles from home to the studio yesterday. The Jag is off the road for repair so I was obliged to drive through the virgin snow in the little blue box with the lawnmower engine - aka the "spare" car. But I am not a wimp so made it without too much trouble.

That was actually number one on 1st February 1968, the day my time machine for the show had gone back to.

Throughout the show I kept joking that I had managed to ski to the studio better than Eddie The Eagle could have done.

Back home I was working on the playlist for the Winter Night Shelter Radio Disco. While I worked e-mails kept popping in. I would deal with them once I had finished the playlist.

Who the hell was Michael Edwards ?  I don't know a Michael Edwards. I could see the message began Hi David.....

Something from that playlist I was working on.

I had my headphones on while I worked, Maureen was sitting next to me watching some rubbish on TV. She jumped out of her skin when I shouted out OH MY GOD !

While I was broadcasting an e-mail popped into my laptop. It was from JOHN, director of The Food Bank, saying he hoped the snow had not prevented me from making it to the studio.

John. why weren't you listening ?

I replied to say I was live. John e-mailed back but modesty prevents me from adding his reply.

Here's a lady who did not do negative, who most certainly was not pathetic, who had no time for failure, was not a wimp and only knew success.

Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, born 4th August 1900 and left us on 30th March 2002 aged 101 years !

One of the e-mails I received yesterday was bringing together plans for a guest on a show, a guest who was a medical consultant to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

Her Majesty certainly knew the songs in that mix. Graham played it the disco I went to be a fly-on-the-wall at but I would

have been useless standing around doing nothing - I DANCED.

I've played it on the radio a few times since and YES it is in the playlist for the Radio Disco.

Disco = 1970's.

That was from the 1940's.

Well it's DISCO isn't it.

Graham also played this at the disco.

When Graham was my guest in the studio last week and we played that I explained how at the end of The Lambeth Walk nobody but nobody shouted Oi louder than Her Majesty and her husband King George.

I'm not sure they actually kicked their legs high into the air though.

I wonder how they would have got on dancing to this from the Radio Disco playlist.

See one there fro The Royal Opera House Covent Garden.  I have actually read it but have marked it unread as I have yet to reply.

It is thanking me for thanking the cast for their spectacular performance which I was privileged to watch and around which I based Wednesday's show. Not in the Radio Disco playlist but I'd better play something from that performance of La Traviata.

It took Verdi only eight weeks to write the opera La Traviata which is by far the most performed opera of all time.

How many people would have the courage to write an opera where the central character is a prostitute ?

Verdi did but then Verdi did not do negative....Verdi did not do pathetic ...Verdi had no time for failure....Verdi was not a wimp ! For  Verdi the ONLY way was SUCCESS...

Guiseppi Verdi, are you going to dance at my Radio Disco ?

With an attitude to life like EDDIE THE EAGLE, like HM QUEEN ELIZABETH THE QUEEN MOTHER and VERDI you  can take on the world and WIN.
