I am not sure what to call this diary entry. Read it and see what I have to say.

There have been a couple of recent diary entries where I have been pessimistic as to our country's future.  Pessimistic, I feel, with just cause but let me balance things a little today. NO balance them A LOT.

Yesterday marked five weeks since my daughter died. Five hard and difficult weeks but five weeks in which so much love has been shown to my family, love from so many people and so great that I can never, ever say a big enough THANK YOU to everyone.

The recent spell of hot weather has taken a toll on my garden, I was out there yesterday with the hosepipe offering first aid to the flowers, to the strawberry plants and to the wilting tomatoes.  I heard the phone ringing inside the house so raced up the path and snatched the handset before the caller hung up.

It was Toni Fisher, the practice manager from my GP's surgery calling to ask how I and my wife Maureen were. How were we coping with our loss ?  Was there anything we needed ?

Can you believe that ?  A large and busy doctors surgery serving many thousands of families yet the person in charge of its administration and co-ordination took time out to personally call me.  Love does not come much better than that. Incredible as it was, it is just one expression of the immeasurable love my family has received across the past five weeks.

Doctor Philip Mason, Renal Consultant at Oxford's Churchill Hospital, said to me the day after Rebekah died, "My job is not to treat patients but to care for them."

Let me put a face to the man - here he is, Lovely Doctor Philip Mason.  Rebekah thought the world of him and so do I. "My job is not to treat patients but to care for them."

The phone rang one evening, two or three days after we lost Beck. It was Maureen and my GP Doctor Hilmy. Before she moved to Northampton Doctor Hilmy had also been Rebekah's GP.  Gary, Rebekah's husband, calls him Doctor Heal-me. Let me introduce you to this incredible man.

Doctor Hilmy was calling to say how sorry he was and to express his love
for my family.  He said during that telephone conversation, "You may be my patient but you are also my friend."  I could write so much about lovely Doctor Hilmy but back to that call yesterday from Toni Fisher. She said that Doctor Labrum had asked if he could have my telephone number as he would like to speak to me.

Doctor Labum retired fifteen years ago, he was my family's GP when each of my children were born and the family doctor who oversaw Rebekah's condition when it first became apparent thirty-two years ago.  Of course Doctor Labrum could have my number, I would be proud if he wanted to call.

I returned to the garden and busied myself spraying a jet of water over wilting flowers. Fortunately I had left the door to the patio open so heard the phone ringing again. Linford Christie you would have been proud of my sprint back up to the house.  It was Doctor Labrum calling.  The practice manager must have called him the moment we finished speaking, given him my number and he called me straight away. We spoke for a long, long time on the telephone, a beautiful conversation filled with love.  How wonderfully special that a man who had retired fifteen years ago still wanted to speak about one of his patients !  He remembered Rebekah so well, his words were so beautiful, so loving and so comforting.

I said to Doctor Labrum that I was proud he had been my family's GP. Unfortunately I do not have a photograph of Doctor Labrum, even the mighty Google can not help me.  I do have a photograph of this man.

This is Iain Stewart, our local MP.  Here is a letter Iain wrote to me a few weeks ago.

LOOK - it is on House of Commons letterhead. LOOK - it is hand written.

Iain was thanking me for praising the work of Milton Keynes Hospital. The Nurse Specialist who looked after Rebekah's dialysis even took time out of her duties to come to her funeral.

For thirty-two years, since Rebekah's renal failure was first diagnosed I have had experience of our WONDERFUL NHS.  I shout my mouth off all the time about it.  My wife says I talk too much, I can never talk enough about the likes of Doctor Mason, Doctor Hilmy, Doctor Labrum, Oxford University Hospitals, Milton Keynes Hospital - I can never shout my mouth off loud enough and for long enough in praise our incredible health service.

When I am shouting I now mention Iain's hand written letter and say how special it is that a busy MP could do that.  Iain is a strong supporter of our NHS and himself a lovely man.  When I spoke to Toni Fisher yesterday and speaking the day after Beck's funeral to the deputy CEO of Milton Keynes Hospital they both praised Iain for his support.

I will be seeing Iain in a couple of weeks when he attends an event Maureen, my wife, is running. No doubt I will bend his ear as I praise the National health Service again.
Putting down the telephone yesterday my first reaction was to write again to Iain then I devised a different plan.  I am very good at opening doors.  If I knock and the door is not opened I just kick it in and enter anyway.  YES, I will tell Iain about those two 'phone calls from yesterday but first let me tell his boss.

I doubt anyone reading this diary entry will recognise this man. NO, he is not a doctor. NO, he does not work for the NHS.  He is Peter Hill, Principal Private Secretary to The Prime Minister.

On Monday morning he will be receiving a recorded delivery letter within which there will be another letter for Iain Stewart's boss.  I am asking him to arrange a fifteen minute meeting for me with Theresa May. The letter will be worded in such a way it will be very difficult for him or Mrs May to refuse.  As Prime Minister Theresa May meets hundreds of people every week, some will just be faces that pass her by and are forgotten within seconds.  I promise you Mrs May you will not forget those fifteen
minutes you spend with me.  You probably will not be able to say much as I will be dominating the conversation throughout as I tell you experience after experience after experience praising our National Health Service.

Mrs May I will meet you anywhere in the country at any time on any day. I want just fifteen minutes of your time. Fifteen minutes to praise our National Health Service. During those fifteen minutes I will give you two thoughts to take away with you.

FIRSTLY it is not the politicians that make a country great, they can do all they like but it is the PEOPLE who make a country great. People like Doctor Mason, people like Doctor Labrum, People like Doctor Heal-me, people like all those who work in our National Health Service.

SECONDLY Mrs May, I will be telling you the National Health Service is NOT undefended.  Yes, of course, it needs more cash, no matter how much money government throws at it
there will never be enough.  Government is in an impossible position and can never find enough. However, when it comes to LOVE our National Health Service is OVER-FUNDED by the incredible people who work within it.

Yesterday two of Rebekah's friends and I met to discuss ideas we have to help Ronald McDonald as he supports families of sick children in hospital. Mrs May I intend to pack a lot into our fifteen minute meeting, I wonder if you and your husband would allow me to take you for a burger at a branch of McDonalds ?  We'll also talk about that in our fifteen minute meeting.

My family would never have coped when Rebekah was a child in hospital if it were not for
Ronald McDonald House.  For thirty years my family has supported Ronald.  Rebekah put in her will a wish that we support Ronald in her memory.

Unlike myself, Ronald does not shout his mouth off. I admire McDonalds, the fast food giant, for the calm and almost secretive way it goes about the work Ronald McDonald Houses do. It could make so much marketing capital out of its work but does not.  I wonder if Prime Minister May knows of Ronald's work. She will once we have met.

On Tuesday I have a meeting with a McDonald's franchise owner and his Marketing Manager.  Following the meeting yesterday with some of Beck's friends, I am busy typing up notes to share and plan tomorrow to write a diary entry which I will call MEMORIES OF McDONALDS.

I really would like to take Mr and Mrs May to McDonalds and to show them the Ronald McDonald boxes there.  I will be asking Iain Stewart to come with me to our local branch, share a burger, see what Ronald is up to and for me to tell him how Beck's friends and family want to help Ronald.  When we go I would love it if someone from Whaddon Medical Centre and someone from Milton Keynes Hospital could join us.

My wife says I talk too much, as you can see when I get going I write too much as well.  But there are some things in life you can not say too much about.

Time for me to shut up.  I'll be back tomorrow with my memories of McDonalds. (NO the way I write McDonalds is NOT a typo - I will explain tomorrow.)

365 WEAK and PATHETIC DAYS !

One year ago today our country went to the poll, it was a day where common sense
prevailed and we voted to leave the dictatorship of the failed European Union. One year further on where are we ? Realistically has anything effective happened ? At the end of the day we are still a part of the institution and freedom is in reality no closer than it was a year ago. The European Union has achieved what The Spanish Armada, Napoleon Bonaparte and Adolf Hitler all failed to do.

Britain voted to leave the European Union but we are still a member. Holland and France failed when common sense was needed in elections within their countries so the politicians who could have rescued the people were never given a chance.

Why are we having all these talks ?  Why all the negotiations ?  What is there to negotiate ? Just walk away. Let the European Union come crawling to us and beg.

What do we need to leave this dictatorship ?  WORLD WAR THREE ?

When I was a kid it was not a case of IF World War Three happened but WHEN.  Sooner or later there was going to be a nuclear holocaust and that would be the end of the world as we knew it. I actually wrote a story in the 1970's - ESCAPE FROM ARMAGEDDON.   Armageddon as we understood it has not come and will not come but World War Three is as big a threat to Planet Earth today as it has even been, it is just coming in a different form.  Oh it will come, that is unless we wake up and open our eyes.

In 2016 1,326 innocent people were murdered by islamists, another 2,620 were injured.  So far in 2017 364 have been murdered and 911 injured.  The liberals continue to tell us islam is a religion of peace.  Have you heard a mosque anywhere near where you live condemn the terrorists ?  I have not. Oh yes World War Three is coming and we are sleepwalking our way to allowing it to happen.

When is The Bullshit Broadcasting Corporation going to stop sensationalising a fire in a London block of flats ?  Has nothing else happened in the world that needs coverage ?

Yesterday the news was proudly reporting there would be no immigration checks carried out on those who were in the fire. WHAT ?  Why are we as a nation allowing crimes to be overlooked ?  Does that mean if there were murderers, rapists, paedophiles or armed robbers living in Grenfell Tower their crimes should be overlooked ?  What about islamic terrorists ?  If there were any of them living there should we overlook them ?

WHAT A MESS !

23rd June 2016 was a great day for Britain. How sad that it has been followed by three hundred and sixty five weak and pathetic days. We deserve better.

Destroying Britain Not For The Few But For The Many

It's half past one in the morning and too hot to sleep, I am tired but can not sleep, far too uncomfortable so here I am at the laptop writing today's diary entry.

I usually start my social media day by playing a piece of inspirational music from my YouTube Channel. still from that channel but not from my Morning Collection I am now going to play something different..

Typical Englishman talking about the weather, it's our national number one subject of conversation !

It can only be a short period of time before everything explodes with a thunder storm.

I wonder how long it will be before our country explodes !

Britain is in a mess and can not continue the way things are. Sooner or later the mess is going to erupt into something very nasty.

On the subject of nasty, we have the nastiest politician of the modern age doing all he can to create anarchy.

We have a prime minister who scored the most spectacular own goal since 1066.

We have the dictatorship of the European Union seeking to destroy our way of life.

We have islam all but declaring open war while the left wing liberals close their eyes to what is happening and accuse all who stand up for Britain being racist.

We have the Bullshit Broadcasting Corporation misrepresenting the news and showing a bias towards anything and everything British.

I love my country but it is getting harder every day to recognise what it is about Britain I love,

Unless people stat to wake up, look about themselves and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH then the long and proud history of this country will come to an end in a thunderstorm which will make a nuclear explosion look like an ant sneezing !

Head or Heart - which should control your life ?

A friend asked me yesterday if I thought people should rule their lives with their heads or with their hearts.  I thought for a moment, I reflected back on the many years I have had on the Earth then said:

I think you should lead with your heart and let your head catch up along the way.

Hey all you great philosophers - Plato - Aristotle - Socrates - none of you came up with anything quite so profound as that did you ?

To make this work a person has to have both a HEART and a HEAD -. not all of are blessed with both.  I would say that in my case the heart is stronger than the head or it could be that my heart can run faster than my head. Many, many times in my life I have messed up spectacularly but simply because my head could not keep up with what my heart had been doing.

Next Tuesday I have a meeting with the franchise owner and his head of marketing for five large branches of McDonalds. We are going to discuss my heart.  I am calling out to my head to catch up and help me prepare for this meeting. On Friday this week I have another meeting with some very special people, it is possible my head may not be needed to say anything at that meeting but I must make sure it is also in attendance and holding hands with my heart.

It is now more than a month since my daughter died. Her friends decided to set up a project to raise one thousand pounds for Ronald McDonald House Charities in Rebekah's name. Ronald McDonald is very special to Rebekah.

My head then kicked into overdrive and formulated a plan to find a way to make this ten thousand by mid October.  Rebekah's Friends, thirty-three supporters and a little bit from my heart and head have so far found just over eight hundred pounds. Ten thousand is not going to be an issue.

My heart then opened its big mouth again.

When Rebekah died she was thirty-four years old so let's raise one thousand pounds for every year of her life. An ambitious but quite logical target.  Now in a fast sprint my head raced to come up with ideas as to how that could be done. Just as it was about to put it's hand on my heart's shoulder and say I AM HERE my heart said two more things.

1. Let's make that thirty-four thousand pounds thing an annual target. Do it every year. Do it every year for the rest of my life.

2. My family has a history of longevity. My maternal grandmother died just a few weeks short of her one hundredth birthday. Assuming I can live to the same age and within the years to come hit that thirty-four thousand pound target each and every year ONE MILLION POUNDS can be generated.

I have two days before my meeting with Rebekah's friends and six days before I meet with these executives from a MocDonalds Franchise. My head has told my heart to sit down and take a rest while it works out a plan to avoid my looking a fool at both meetings.  My head has a plan to make thirty-four thousand by 19th May 2018, the first anniversary of my daughter's death. I am now very busy typing up that plan.

My diary is a bit diverse in content. In the previous entry I was doing my best to name and
shame a certain organisation. Before that I was talking about my story writing and visiting a radio telescope paid for by an old friend. Hang on and let me scroll down a few pages, see what I have been writing about:

10th June -. there was my seven year old grandson's view on politics.

15th May - I was talking about my holiday in Devon.

10th May - I was banging on about the forthcoming general election.

27th April - I was proposing we reintroduce slavery in the UK and make homelessness illegal. Oh that made you stop didn't it !  Well read what both my head and my heart were saying in perfect harmony on that day and I bet you everything I own that you will agree with what my diary entry says.

But back to today's diary entry, back to the two meetings I have coming up and back to my
heart and head racing one another.

Too many times in my life my heart has been way in front of my head.  Too many times my best intentions have not come to fruition. That can not happen now.

THIRTY-FOUR THOUSAND POUNDS A YEAR FOR RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES - EVERY YEAR I HAVE LEFT ON THIS EARTH.

My heart is screaming that as loud as it can. The louder it shouts the more likely it thinks my head will agree.

My head has responded with a POLICY which I am putting on this diary page and will be inviting all who are coming to both meetings to read.  My head says if my heart works through the policy everything should be OK. (Eventually)

I do not believe in god but in do believe in Destiny. Many, many times Destiny - I always spell it with a capital D - appears in my story writing. Destiny I have felt many times tapping me on the shoulder and saying "Hey - this way"  but never more than I am feeling right now. The problem is my heart is always the one to communicate with Destiny, perhaps my head needs to listen as well.

Anyway, here is my head's contribution to OurRebekah. If you have any thoughts my HEAD will listen and make sure my HEART understands.
With that I'll sign off for today.

The programme has been set up in memory of Rebekah Deer, nee Ashford, who passed away on Friday 19th May 2017. The project is co-ordinated by David, Rebekah’s Father.

Rebekah spent much of her childhood in Guys Hospital, London, where Ronald McDonald House provided untold support for her family. Rebekah’s family was one of the first to be supported in England by Ronald McDonald. There are now 15 Ronald McDonald Houses up and down the country and 365 worldwide in 40 different countries.

The aim of the Our Rebekah Project is NOT to raise money itself but to support others who have fund raising projects operating and to help these different projects raise £34,000 extra cash every year, one thousand pounds for each year of Rebekah’s life. David is determined to live long enough to see the yearly totals add up to one million pounds.

At the centre of the support project is the website www.OurRebekah.com.  It is planned for this to become a forum for fund raising groups and a publicity tool. The website will operate a blog and will put forward different projects and resources which fund raisers for Ronald McDonald can take up.

Initially support will be directed via: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/OurRebekah

It is up to Ronald McDonald how any money  is used. However, specific fund raisers may wish to ask Ronald to direct money to specific houses. Working with franchise operator Kaizen Restaurants support there is directed to the Oxford House.

Our Rebekah is not an organisation in its own right but an independent resource supporting Ronald McDonald House Charity specifically and Ronald's fund raisers in general. Our Rebekah will not handle money, everything will go via individual fund raisers or via JustGiving. No expenses will be taken from any money raised for Ronald McDonald, David will cover expenses himself via royalties from his stories written under the pen-name of Max Robinson.  NOTE: All royalties from the books The Wild Adventures of Di Central Eating and The Bridge House will go entirely to Ronald McDonald.

The project will not ask any person, group or corporate body to give money or anything materially without receiving something in return. This could be as simple as an individual having some fun as they attend an event or a corporate body/celebrity receiving publicity. Physical items will be offered for sale or by auction.  It is important that everyone understands Our Rebekah will not ask for anything from anybody without offering something positive in return.

AN UPDATE - Naming and shaming BT .Please read this diary and support me.

This is an original blog entry I wrote in June. I have been meaning for some time to act on that which is reported below but the pain BT has caused me at the most difficult time in my life has kept me from taking the action that needs to be put in place.

As well as costing me a large sum of money this company has brought great pain and emotional stress to my well being.

Something has to be done. This company can not be allowed to get away with things.

I am seeking advice.

I am considering the following action:
Sending a copy of this account to every member of the BT Board.
Sending a copy to the consumer affairs editor of every national newspaper, television and radio station asking them to name and shame the BT employees whose names appear below.

What do you think ?

THANK YOU for taking time to read this diary entry.  It is
a long entry today.  I would be so pleased if you would take a moment to read all I have to say and to help me expose certain failing elements in one of our country's largest companies.

If I were to ask you which is the British company you have dealt with in the past twelve months that gave you the worst customer service experience I wonder who you would name.  I wonder if it may perhaps be BT - British Telecom.

On the Trust Pilot review website there are 2,822 reviews posted for BT. 89.4% give the company the very lowest possible grading with more giving it two or three stars which still place it within the unacceptable level.

Let's pick another name we all know well and see how it compares with BT.  How about McDonald's ?

There you go - an average of 5.6.

I scrolled though pages of BT reviews on Trust Pilot and could not find a single person who had given BT anything but the very lowest score.

Allow me to take a moment of your time and share some review with you. I have been fair and objective in my selection, these are the most recently posted reviews.

Do they match your experience of the company ?

I am going to share my experience with you in a moment but before I do that let us take a look at the people behind this failing and shameful company.

Meet Gavin Patterson, Chief Executive Officer of BT.  It is reported he earns 5.3 million pounds a year, could be true or possibly an exaggeration. If it is true not a bad salary for being a failure. If it is an exaggeration how much would pay to a man who has 89.4% bad reviews for the company he runs ?

And this on the right is Libby Barr, BT's director in charge of customer services. Of all the directors
on the register at Company House she must be by far the most under-employed. Customer and service are not two words that trip easily off the corporate tongue of BT.

Her is Libby Barr again, this time receiving This Is Money's wooden spoon award for the company offering the worst customer service. Apparently BT is the regular winner of this award.

You would think, would you not, that any company winning this award just once would get its act together and change things but not BT. I wonder if it takes pride in its failure.  Certainly Gavin Patterson does not look too distressed about heading the country's worst customer service performing company.  But hey if you were paid 5.3  million  pounds a year would you care ?  Libby Barr may not be smiling but do you think behind that face there is a person who cares about the customers she is supposed to champion ?

In awarding BT the wooden spoon yet again This is Money said: ......what stood out this year was that, as well as poor everyday service, vast numbers of complaints could be traced back to the firm's Openreach arm that's responsible for sending engineers to fix faults with phone lines..........

Did you know that BT has a dedicated department within Gavin Patterson's office to deal with complaints that are sent to him personally ?  I wonder how many other company chief executives have to have a team of managers paid to fend off complaints and protect their boss from the realities of life.

Here is my case against BT, failing directors Gavin Patterson and Libby  Barr are fully aware of the case, at least they should be unless they have chosen to forget all about it. It would be a safe bet they have but it would be an even safer bet I will be reminding them very loudly until they start doing their jobs properly.  Look out Gavin Patterson and look out Libby Barr, your day of reckoning is coming.

A year ago I was having building work undertaken at my home. The incoming BT telephone and broadband line entered the property in a position where a new door needed to be located.
I asked BT to send an engineer to move the junction box.  Initially I was told by a call centre operative this could not be done as the junction box was not faulty. An engineer could only call if the box was faulty.  Being unable to make the BT call centre employee comprehend and use common sense I hung up the phone.

Calling again I did speak to a BT employee with more than a single brain cell who was able to comprehend the situation and arrangements were made for an engineer to visit.  The length of time before a visit could be made was unacceptable.  BT agree this was unacceptable and offered a small financial gesture by way of an apology.  This has never been paid. The charge to be applied by BT for the engineer to undertake the work was £120.  The original request for the box to be moved was filed with BT on 7th September 2016.

Ahead of the engineer's visit I received an e-mail and a text message from BT reminding me of the visit and warning that if I was not at home I could be charged for a missed appointment. Presumably £120.  A time slot of 8am to 12noon was arranged.

I was told the engineer would contact me ahead of the visit.  This did not happen.  Not hearing from the engineer I called BT and was put through to one of its call centres half way up a mountain in the Himalayas. That call centre operative confirmed the details and said the engineer would be there as planned.
8am came and went - no engineer. 9am came and went - no engineer.  10am came and went - no engineer. 11am came and went - no engineer. 12 noon came and went - no engineer.

Eventually the engineer arrived at 4.10pm !

When the engineer FINALLY arrived he was highly distressed and agitated.  He said he had been trying to call me to explain the delay.  It transpired he had been unable
to speak to me as BT had given him the WRONG TELEPHONE NUMBER.  Hey Libby Barr I bet you are proud of that within the catalogue of your customer service operation !

BT had the correct number, it is my phone service provider for goodness sake !

BT had the correct number - OF COURSE IT DID, it is my phone service provider for goodness sake !  WAKE UP LIBBY BARR !  BT had used the correct number to send me the text message, the number was confirmed when I called BT in India. There can be absolutely no excuse for BT giving the engineer the wrong number.

THAT IS INCOMPETENCE ON THE HIGHEST LEVEL. If a phone service provider can not give its engineer a correct phone number then who can ?

This engineer was employed by an independent company contracted by BT, M J Quinn, but finally arrived in a BT and Openreach van. Part of the engineer's distress, he explained, was the fact that BT ALWAYS tried to blame the engineer if something went wrong and never, ever accepted corporate failure.  Libby Barr is that correct ?

The engineer looked at the box  which now stood in a hole in the wall where the door needed to be fitted by the builder.  The box and wires were protected by plastic tubing the builder had fitted.  The engineer said he was not qualified to do this work. Why had BT sent out an unqualified engineer ?  BT knew EXACTLY what had to be done.

The engineer tried to call his manager who he said would be able to come out and effect the move.  Unfortunately, he could not contact his manager. Perhaps he had the wrong number or perhaps the manager had left for the day. Is it acceptable for an engineer to be sent out to do a job without the security of back up and support if such were needed ?  The engineer took several photographs of the junction box now sitting on top of the plastic sleeving the builder had used to protect the wires. HE DID NOT PHYSICALLY TOUCH THE BOX. Surely that would have been the most basic thing to have done.

Complaining to BT that I had a wasted day, building work had been delayed and expressing my frustration at having had to be home from 8am to 4.10pm waiting on a fools errand I was grossly insulted by BT employee Ross Valentine who offered me £10 compensation.  Do the maths - this person valued my time at £1.20 per hour. I can not stress too strongly how deeply offensive I found this to be.  Ross Valentine is part of BT's executive complaints team, those surrounding CEO Gavin Patterson and protecting his 5.3 million pound salary from customer anger.  Ross Valentine thought I was worth just £1.20 an hour, may I suggest that £1.20 an hour would be an over payment for both himself and Gavin Patterson !

The next day another engineer was sent by BT to "finish" the work from the previous day.  He arrived without BT advising he was coming and without an appointment.  PERHAPS BT HAD GIVEN ITSELF THE WRONG PHONE NUMBER !  This engineer had no knowledge of the circumstances of the previous engineer's visit. He simply looked at the situation and said I AM NOT QUALIFIED TO MOVE IT. A second UNQUALIFIED engineer sent out by BT.  I wonder, does BT employ any qualified engineers ? Again it is IMPORTANT to note the engineer did not touch the junction box, he only looked at it.

Now here is something so funny it is ridiculous but demonstrates clearly the defective mindset of BT and shows the lack of loyalty its filed engineers have towards its management systems.  This engineer laughed and joked as he told myself and my builder how his previous job before attending my home was to move a telephone line at a local cement depot.  That telephone line crossed a railway track.  One engineer, one BT van, a phone line and a railway track where high-speed trains are racing up and down ever few seconds !  It make you wonder, does it not, what calibre of administration BT operates which would send one man to move a telephone line running overhead of a train line !

Speaking with this engineer he said that the problem with BT's management is nobody wants to take ownership of a problem and see it properly through to a resolution. How right he has shown to be. TWO BT engineers who spoke ill of the company's ability to look after customers. Not a lot of loyalty within BT !  Gavin Patterson, Libby Barr, WAKE UP and look about the failing customer service system you operate !

The next contact from BT was a telephone call saying arrangements needed to be a call, BT had the correct phone number on this occasion, saying arrangements needed to be made for a surveyor to call.  I was very angry and frustrated, as I am sure you will comprehend, with BT so explained I was not prepared to accept any further delay and insisted a surveyor visit that day or at the latest the following day.  I was told this was impossible, that's a word high up in BT's customer service vocabulary and its first line of defence when a customer complains or when a problem arises.

About one hour later a third BT engineer arrived.  No appointment had been made, no telephone call to say he was coming - BT probably gave him the wrong number ! I asked this man if he was a surveyor.  he said he was not but had been sent to look at the situation. he did not, as neither of the two previous engineers did, actually touch the junction box.  Indeed he did not even get close to it but stood away from it as he spoke.  In front of witnesses, my builders working on the property, he spoke the most ridiculous nonsense imaginable.  he talked about digging up the driveway and putting in a brand new phone line.  The man did not have the first idea what he was talking about, he would have been better employed as a clown in a circus.  He obviously relayed this back to BT where failing executive complaints team member Ross valentine failed to undertake the most basic and proper checks which would have revealed the gibberish this engineer had been speaking.

Without properly checking the situation Ross Valentine then told me that I had to contact Openreach myself to have a survey undertaken.  let me repeat this, I know it is ridiculous so perhaps I need to make sure my readers understand -  Ross Valentine then told me that I had to contact Openreach myself to have a survey undertaken.  Is not Openreach part of BT ? Did not all three failed engineers attend in a van clearly marked BT and Openreach ?  is not Gavin Patterson the failed CEO of both BT and Openreach ?  Does not Libby Barr ensure the poorest customer service levels within both BT and Openreach ?

Ross Valentine had difficulty with common sense, I do not. I refused to contact Openreach, that was Ross Valentine's responsibility and not mine. I made my original request to BT on 7th September 2016. the situation explained by myself at that time was perfectly clear and not open to misinterpretation.   I do not see how it could possibly be my responsibility to have contacted Openreach after BT had failed on three separate occasions.  Contacting Openreach was the responsibility of those managing my request, those who had sent out THREE failed Openreach engineers, the same incompetent people who had sent a single engineer to move a telephone line across an active train track !  Why the sudden abdication of responsibility ?  Why change position and say it was my responsibility ?  True I probably had more common sense and knowledge of how phone lines work than the average BT employ but it was not my responsibility.  I am the customer and BT the service provider.  Oh I forgot, Libby Barr does not understand what a customer is !

For me to have contacted Openreach after the extended saga of BT's failures would have been like an airline pilot entering the passenger cabin and asking for someone to contact air traffic control and obtain clearance for him to land the plane.

RIDICULOUS !

Ross Valentine was not able to comprehend the situation.  Not only this but it became clear he lacked even the most basic ability to offer even the minimum levels of customer service. But is this not standard within BT ?  This is the person who insulted me by valuing my time at £1.20 an hour.  Shows the calibre of BT's executive complaints team doe it not ?  Or am I being unfair ?  What do you think ?

Failing in his abilities to offer even the most basic customer service, to apply common sense and do anything outside insulting me Ross Valentine said we had reached deadlock and I would need to take my case to the ombudsman.  What a cop out and complete abdication of responsibility !  Next time Libby Barr receives the wooden spoon for customer service she may like to take Ross Valentine with her to the presentation ceremony.

While I was waiting for the ombudsman to review my case, that is another story in itself, I took a close look at the junction box myself, something NOT ONE of BT's failed engineers had done. I found there was more than enough slack wire to move the box to the position it needed to be.  I discussed this with my builder who very easily moved the box. FIFTY-FOUR days after my original request to BT. FIFTY-FOUR days during which BT failed to send competent engineers to look at the requirements for the box to be moved.  FIFTY-FOUR days during which I suffered the most appalling levels of customer service from BT. No, that needs to be put another way - FIFTY-FOUR days during which I endured BT's standard level of customer service.  Libby Barr you must be proud.  Are you looking forward to another wooden spoon for operating the worst customer service of any company in the country ? Do you have a trophy cabinet in your office to hold all your awards for being a failure ?  I guess it must be a BIG cabinet.

BT thinks it is going to get away with applying its usual poor levels of customer service to my case but I would assure Gavin Patterson and Libby Bar they are not ! It is not just that  BT offered the most appalling levels of customer service but what angers me so deeply is the thoroughly dishonourable way the company has behaved.  I strongly suspect that BT's executive complaint team is closing ranks around Ross Valentine and preventing his failings being known.

I took legal advice which said if I issued a writ against BT in the county court I would be certain to win, it would then be up to the judge to decide the level of compensation I was to be awarded. Winning my case would be a formality but BT would use every trick it could to suggest I would not win.  The delays I experiences in having the building work completed at my property cost me money and caused me considerable distress.  I suggested a figure to BT for compensation but would have been prepared to negotiate to £1,000.  BT continued to conduct itself in a thoroughly dishonourable way and refused to respect myself as a customer and apologise for its abysmal failings.

While I was dealing with the matter my daughter was taken ill with real failure. The transplanted kidney she had received as a child was failing and she would face a life on dialysis. Every day for four weeks in had either to visit my daughter in hospital or take her to a clinic appointment. The demand on my time and the stress of having to look after her did not need me to be concerned with BT and its failing levels of customer service.  I advised BT that the problem had not gone away but I would make contact at a later stage to resolve the complaint.

When  I was ready to pick up matters I wrote to Gavin Patterson.  He did not even give me the basic common courtesy of answering my letter. What kind of a man is heading BT ?  Or could it be that he was denied access to the letter ?

At that point I decided to prepare a file to send to the consumer affairs editor of every national newspaper, radio and television station in the country objectively stating the facts and inviting them to name and shame those with BT who were behind the failings in my specific case.

My daughter died suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday 19th May 2017.  BT's despicable conduct hangs over me at a time when I am trying to come to terms with my loss. I can not allow BT to get away with what it is trying to.  I am publishing this blog ahead of naming and shaming those involved in the media and asking the media's help to take BT to court. Any compensation a court awards to me and any fee a media company elects to pay to me for the story will not now go into my pocket. My daughter's friends have set up a Just Giving website in her memory to support Ronald McDonald House Charities: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/OurRebekah I am sure I will have no difficulty in getting consumer affairs editors to take up the case.

I wonder if BT will ever become a company offering acceptable levels of customer service or if Gavin Patterson, Libby Barr and its executive complaints team are happy to draw their salaries as failures. I wonder if BT is big enough to apologise for its failures, admit its dishonour and make a payment of £1,000 to that Just Giving page ?  I would even let the company have the concession of allowing the payment to be made ex gratia.

I wonder what the outcome will be but Gavin Patterson. Libby Barr and others you need to understand I will do everything in my power to call them to account. I WILL NOT STOP COMPLAINING UNTIL YOU DO THE RIGHT THING.  I do not remember the last time I lost an argument, it was not in this millennium !

I am the most arrogant person I know

If I were a famous writer these notebooks would be worth a fortune !  But I am not a famous writer so they are worthless.

When writing my books I scribble into notebooks then type everything up later.  The scribbling bit is the easy part as my mind races with ideas, racing so fast that the pen can not keep up and the scribble becomes more scribbled.  Typing up the notes is that hard bit. For my current story THE BRIDGE HOUSE I am writing between one and two thousand words a day.

My notebook for the past week's writing cover the years in my story of World War Two.  I have been making a conscious effort not just to tell the story but to give an insight into the way my characters feel about the situation they are living through.

Yesterday I took three songs from World War One and built a slideshow of images around them.

In the story I am bringing World War one, of course it was not called that back then but The Great War, to its end. No longer needed as a munitions worker, Lily is wondering what she is going to do with her life. An entire generation of men has been decimated meaning there just not the husbands for young women to marry, many will be destined to become elderly spinsters. They were called maiden aunts and every family had them. There were three in my family.

William has suggested to Lily that they could be married but William is not well enough at this point in the story and Lily is not certain she wants to fall in love with anyone again.
Lily and William do get married, just as well for if they had not I wouldn't be here !

Their oldest son, Billy, is the subject of my book AN INTERVIEW WITH FLIGHT SERGEANT BILLY. In writing my current book I may be making a conscious effort to get inside the minds of the characters but standing back, looking at what I have written, looking at those scribbled notebooks I find this is my normal style of writing. Writing Flight Sergeant Billy's story I have tried to get inside the mind of the uncle I never knew. It was not a difficult thing to do.

The Bridge House and An Interview with Flight Sergeant Bill are factual although an author's imagination is wrapped round everything, fact and fiction merge to become one as I tell the story.

The Case Files of Dave McDermott is completely fictional but thinking back and looking at the scribbles notebooks I was subconsciously throughout trying to explain not only what the characters were doing but why they were feeling the way they were and how feelings controlled their actions.

The first case McDermott investigates is a serial killer brutally murdering traffic wardens. Nobody likes traffic wardens do they ?  While I am not condoning the murders my character commits I think the reader will have sympathy and understanding for him.

I have written two autobiographies. The first my schoolboy autobiography - THINGS WERE DIFFERENT IN MY DAY - and the second telling of my later teenage years when I left school and entered the world of work - THE STORY OF A TEENAGE ENTREPRENEUR (FAILED) . Of course these two books show how I was feeling and give an insight into my character.  I think one word sums up that character - ARROGANCE.

All these years later nothing has changed you know. I am still the most arrogant person I know.

The Bridge House will be published in mid October in both paperback and e-book format. ALL royalties from sales will be given to Ronald McDonald Houses supporting families of sick children in hospital. There is a purpose in my writing for this book and I am loving every minute of my scribbling. But there is that character trait of arrogance there. Arrogance that I will actually sell copies of the book when it is finished an published. If I do not sell anything I am going to look pretty stupid.

If I were J K Rowling and I put those notebooks of scribble on to e-bay I wonder how much money they would make.  Surely it would run into many thousands of pounds.  If I were to put those three notebooks of mine into an auction how much would they make ? Would anyone even bid for them ?

I always buy my notebooks from Poundland, the original cost therefore of the three in the picture is three pounds.  To finish my book I think I may need another five so the profits of Poundland will increase as I write. Do you think when I have finished writing the story, if I put the books on e-bay they would make back their original purchase price ?

Not likely.

Let arrogance speak.......

I will just have to become a famous writer then won't I ?
