Like a bat out of hell

Yesterday I had a new turbo charger fitted to my car. To quote the guy at the garage: You'll find it now drives like a bat out of hell !

IT DOES.

I think the turbo has not been working properly for a long time, the car now hasso much power I need to be very careful how I drive.

Some time ago a dear and old friend asked me if I thought a person should let their head or their heart rule their life. I did
not hesitate with my reply: Let your heart do the running and let your head catch up.

That is always how I have lived my life. When my head has failed to keep up then the outcome has been failure. But that has never changed my life philosophy.

Right now the turbo in my Jag is weak compared to the turbo in my head.

It's 2.56am.  I'll write this page then head to the studio to broadcast today's show. The title for that show is HEART v HEART as I debate my friend's question and my answer.

Yesterday the broadcast computer showed a strong UK based audience, I can not get precise numbers - that needs a log in from the programme controller but numbers were way up.  The way UK listeners were popping up on the screen was like a bat out of hell.

Without any question this explosion in the audience is down to the new Geriatric DJ Facebook Group. In less than a week it has achieved a membership of 251 ! Are you a group member ?  CLICK HERE

It is and will be the key to the success of OUR music as we play that music to make people smile, be happy and inspire support for good causes.

In a meeting with LISA last week we agreed that things will go on hold a little bit as we get a foundation in place, we will then ONLY take on something if we have a person within the team to manage it.

THERE ARE SOME IMMEDIATE NEEDS FOR SUCH PEOPLE:

Friends to drop by Blecthley Bandstand on Saturday between 9am and 8pm - morning being the most important time. We will be playing music for a rock and roll party supporting The Food Bank and warming up for the live stage and the Christmas Lights Switch on. Can you drop by.

We need to promote SECRET SANTA but important we need to find friends who will take the gifts, wrap them and store them ahead of delivery to the three hospitals.  Last year we collected 100 gifts, this year we need 200.

I need members of the group to come along for an hour during my New Year marathon radio show. Come and play some music with me - help me make people smile and be happy.  CLICK HERE for the plan.  CLICK HERE for the broadcast schedule.

If I had £1 for every time I have played this song over the last forty years I would be a rich man and the £900 spent yesterday on a new turbo for the Jag would be lose change.

I have always tried to live my life like a bridge over troubled water. Our music needs bridges, lots of them. We need a
friend for every good cause we want out music to support. For each cause we need someone who will be the point of contact for that good cause, to co-ordinate our activity and to promote it. This is not an arduous task, a couple of hours a week which you can fit round everything else in your life.

Will you be one of our bridges ?

OK- 3.24am. Let's publish today's page. I'll go back to bed for half an hour then drive the Jag CAREFULLY to the studio, To listen to the show 6am to 8am simply go to www.crmk.co.uk and click on LISTEN  The PODCAST will be on-line round about 9am

CRMK - The world's number one radio station !

I am still the newbie at Radio CRMK but I get withdrawal symptoms when I do not have a show to broadcast. Starting next week I will be live every day Monday to Thursday 6am to 8am then in in the New Year I will be adding in a Friday show.

I am proud to be a radio DJ but even more proud of the station within which I am a small part !

Today's podcast is now available CLICK HERE

I am going to play music here on the blog from today's show and to tell you all why Radio CRMK is the greatest radio station in all of the world.

Here's something from ABBA I played earlier.

I walked into the studio just before 5am, it was cold outside so I turned the hearer on. About forty minutes into the show I
switched it off, the music was hot enough to keep me warm.

Today's show was MUSIC FROM MY VINYL COLLECTION, I have to confess that I play everything using modern digital technology but will ONLY play music if I have the original vinyl copy at home.  Each week I have a featured album, this week it was THE VERY BEST OF THE EVERLY BROTHERS so let's have a track from them.

Yesterday evening I did a guest spot on BBC Three Counties Radio.

It was cool, it was fun but due to morons closing off Dunstable High Street I was obliged to take a VERY long detour home, I went to bed at 11.30pm yet was in the studio to prepare for this morning's show round about 4.50am.

Thanks Producer Jonathan and thanks Presenter Nana at BBC THREE COUNTIES RADIO. Hey Nana could we poach you to join our station ?

This was my opening track this morning.

I was a guest on BBC Radio yesterday to talk about our radio station's toilet twinning programme. The Beeb does not do advertising does it ?  It did last night as I plugged Radio CRMK.  Well we are the very best radio station in the world after all !

The best ?  YES. When I took what was a silly little idea to twin our studio look with a home in Uganda and provide the family which did not have a loo, all of our fantastic presenters grabbed hold of the idea and made it happen.

I have put the twinning certificate on top of a studio speaker so everyone can see it. It will eventually end up in our loo.

Radio CRMK's toilet is twinned with and has now provide a loo for a family in the village of Keeru in Muyanje Kabale District of Uganda.

Something about BBC Radio which would not work for me is
presenters not being able to select their own music, everything comes down from on high. I also like to be able to wing my way through a show.

Having been on two different radio stations in nine hours I winged things and changed the playlist to include a song for another radio station. I played Radio Ga Ga. I played a recording from the Live Aid Concert which had a world-wide audience of one billion.  Almost as many as listen to Radio CRMK.

As I walked into the studio I was met by a bulging sack of gifts for SECRET SANTA where Radio CRMK is supporting a project I run each Christmas to take gifts of love to families
with a child sick in hospital. CLICK HERE to find out about this project of love and to get involved.

I grabbed some of the gifts of love, put them on the broadcast desk to take this pic.

Isn't Radio CRMK a fantastic radio station.

DJ Stewart Bailey holds the Radio CRMK award as PRESENTER OF THE YEAR. A truly well-deserved accolade !  I tuned into his show on Saturday and there he was talking about SECRET SANTA.

Stewart shared a poem with me which I read twice on this morning's show and plan to share it on all of my shows throughout the week.

I play music to make people smile, be happy and to inspire support for good causes. THANK YOU Stewart for this amazing verse.

Smiling is infectious, you can catch it just like flu -
When someone started smiling at me today I started smiling too.
I walked around the corner and someone saw me grin.
When he smiled I realised I had passed it on to him.
I thought about the smile and understood its worth.A single smile like mine could travel round the earth. So if you feel a smile begin do not leave it undetected
Start an epidemic and get the world infected !

Stewart thinks we should have a radio station car which we could all use, he left these possibilities in the studio.

Stewart I think we should approach our neighbour ASTON MARTIN and ask them to give us a car.  No worry, I will look after it and keep it at my home.  I'll drive it every day to make sure it is working OK.

By the way it's Stewart's birthday today, I won't give his age away and tell everyone he is 49 years old. Stewart I think you are not very good at Maths, you are at least ten years younger than that.

What did you have for breakfast ?  Here's a couple of before
and after pictures of my breakfast in the studio.

Radio CRMK is a family, we are a team. I am the newbie but from Day One I felt that warmth of the family round me.

I returned home from broadcasting to find a message on my computer from Kevin who presents BETWEEN TWO WORLDS on Monday evening.

A veritable mix of music being played and a lot I haven`t heard for a long time. Good work.

That was so kind Kevin, THANKS. Do you include this track in the "veritable mix of music ?

I popped a bucket into the studio for presenters to bring in their empty printer ink cartridges. Each cartridge is worth £1 to Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham. They are recycled and used to help support families with a child sick in hospital. Since I was last in the studio so many had been left by fellow presenters.

THANK YOU.

Video has certainly not killed the amazing Radio CRMK.

To formally unveil our toilet twinning certificate we are having a New Year Marathon Broadcast. I will be anchoring this starting at 11.30pm on Monday 31st December and running all the way to noon on Tuesday 1st January. I today left in the studio a draft copy of the playlist and schedule. CHECK IT OUT HERE  Would you like to be a guest on this show ?  Come in and have a bit of fun with the music ?  E-mail me at inspire@crmk.co.uk Come and be a part of the world's greatest radio station.

After I paid over the money for the toilet twining project another £10 has been donated.  I was going to send this to the charity co-ordinating everything but I have an idea.

How about this ?

When we do the New Year Broadcast how about we have a collecting box for those coming into the show into throw some loose change into.  Friends can sign up for a prize draw. In the last hour of the show we draw the winner.  The prize ?  We will use the money to twin their loo !

What do you think ?

To go back to Stewart's poem, let's start a world-wide infection of smiles.

Leaving BBC Radio last night I was asked for a bouncy, fun track they could play.  I did not play it this morning but The Beeb did last night and dedicated it to our toilet.

THANK YOU BBC Three Counties Radio for letting me come along last night. Thank You FABULOUS RADIO CRMK and all of our amazing team for letting this newbie share music via the broadcast desk.

I'll be back in the studio tomorrow with LET'S INSPIRE MK where the sub-title of my show is HEART v HEAD.  Then on Thursday I will have my WAKE UP WITH THE CLASSICS show which is WHERE CLASSICAL MUSIC MEETS ROCK AND ROLL.  I am so looking forward to broadcasting that !!!!

You will need a spacesuit to join our team

Do you have a spacesuit ?

You can probably buy on on AMAZON.

You are going to need one.

Our smiles are about to go into orbit.

I make no apology for again sharing STEWART BAILEY'S POEM. (DAMN GOOGLE GEEKS AGAIN SCREWING UP THE FORMATTING !)

Smiling is infectious, you can catch it just like flu -
When someone started smiling at me today I started smiling too.
I walked around the corner and someone saw me grin.

JANUARY 2019 - 3pm Sunday 13th - that's the launch.

Can you help put our music and smiles into orbit ?  Go and buy yourself a spacesuit then join the team.

As a team member you can fit the work round your own life commitments, giving one or two hours a week.

Could you do this ?

Could you help put our smiles into orbit ?

Message us via our Facebook group - CLICK HERE.

Dissease

A few days ago Stewart shared a poem with me.

That poem has become very important to me.

I would like to share it with you all this morning and to ask you to help OUR music create an epidemic, a disease, a world-wide plague.

Smiling is infectious, you can catch it just like flu -
When someone started smiling at me today I started smiling too.

I walked around the corner and someone saw me grin.
When he smiled I realised I had passed it on to him.
I thought about the smile and understood its worth.
A single smile like mine could travel round the earth.
So if you feel a smile begin do not leave it undetected
Start an epidemic and get the world infected !

THE GERIATRIC DJ - I may be the person but I am NOT the BRAND.  Freddie Mercury was the LEAD SINGER of Queen but he was NOT the leader of the band. The band was a family and only achieved all they did by being that family. Will you become a part of our family ?

We play music to MAKE PEOPLE BE HAPPY, SMILE AND SUPPORT GOOD CAUSES.....

We are starting to build a team to spread the infection. Can you help ?

FIRST are you a member of The Geriatric DJ Facebook Group ?  Within just a few days membership has gone from ZERO to 194 - we need to add a zero to that number and have 1,940. PLEASE join and invite all of your own Facebook friends to join.

NEXT listen to the music....

THEN we need people to join the team at what ever level they wish, from simply sharing the music to infect people with the smile to taking on a role of co-ordinating support for one of the individual good causes we support.  PLEASE LOOK AT THE AREAS WE NEED TO FILL

Sunday 13th January 2019 3pm - please put that date in your diary. Let's all get together and share thoughts and release the infection.

We have the music which could make the whole world smile. Now let's teach the world to sing.

Special Edition - PART TWO

UPDATED Saturday 17th November. Scroll down to number 14 in the music

The Geriatric DJ.....

Playing music to make people smile, be happy and to inspire support for good causes.

Stewart Bailey sent me this.....

Smiling is infectious, you catch it like flu -

When someone started smiling at me today I started smiling too.
I walked around the corner and someone saw me grin.

When he smiles I realised I had passed it on to him.

I thought about the smile and realised its worth.

A single smile like mine could travel wound the earth.

So if you feel a smile begin do not leave it undetected

Start an epidemic and get the world infected !

Will you help me to take the vision of The Geriatric DJ and Stewart's poem to infect the world with smiles ?

It is FRIDAY and that means a new Top Twenty chart.  As I take friends through this special edition and invite you to start the epidemic Stewart is suggesting I will play music from that chart.

Publication of blog pages over the past two weeks has been erratic. This is partly down to my simply having too much to do with not enough days in the week, partly down to my needing help to cover all the areas of work which pour in every day and my spending much of my day with our special friends Josh and Jelena, both have personal and health issues I have tried to help them with. For now they need to take a back seat within our music.

As a person I am The Geriatric DJ but the music is more than me. If we want to start the epidemic Stewart Speaks of it is the brand we have to build and not the person.

PLAYING MUSIC ON THE RADIO - ON A DAILY BLOG - ON YOUTUBE - ON OUR WEBSITE - IN THE COMMUNITY....

To play the music and to start the epidemic we need two things:
People and Money
In saying money it is important that NOTHING is taken from any money we generate through the smiles for good causes, indeed I think the good causes should take charge themselves of money and SUPPORT does not always mean
money.  We have expenses and these will grow significantly if our music is successful but I also believe that we should put a few pounds into individual team members pockets to cover their costs and to say thank you.  We need to be a support group and not a charity or company ion our own right although the latter may need to happen at some stage.

Let's look at the music we have.

Currently I present THREE early morning shows on RADIO CRMK - 6am to 8am

TUESDAY - Music From My Vinyl Collection
WEDNESDAY - Let's Inspire
THURSDAY - Wake Up With The Classics

Starting on MONDAY 26th November there will be MONDAY MORNING MUSIC MEGA MIX

Provisional date for a FRIDAY SHOW  is 4th January. PICK OF THE POPS

I will be hosting a NEW YEAR special show 11.30pm Monday 31st December to 12noon Tuesday 1st January.

It is very important the relationship is clear. I am one of a team of presenters on Radio CRMK. The directors allow me to use the music to support good causes but Radio CRMK is NOT part of The Geriatric DJ as a brand. That has to be clear.  The brand supports and promotes the radio station NOT the other way round.

To get a feel for my radio style and content please listen to some of my PODCASTS

I had hoped the total blog readership would reach 100,000 by Christmas but that is now looking unlikely. We need to rethink the blog, to have more than just myself writing it and to promote it far more effectively. We need to have the blog attracting a minimum of 200 visitors a day.

The website is OK but needs finishing with some areas being updated and others brought in. Throughout the website we need to re position Josh and Jelena, I hope temporarily.  The site is currently pulling around 10 visitors a day.  It needs to be 100 and then 1,000 a day. The website, of course is www.geriatricdj.com

Radio Love is the music we play in the community.

There are 437 music videos on our YouTube Channel

The music is good but the channel does need to be tidied up so it is easier to navigate and content needs to be added on a more regular basis. We do have the facility to broadcast live into the channel.

So.....
We have our mission: Playing music to make people smile, be happy and to inspire support for good causes.

We have Stewart's poem and a wish to infect the world.

We have the areas where we can play the music.

HOW DO WE TAKE WHAT WE HAVE, DRIVE IT THROUGH STEWART'S POEM AND ACHIEVE OR MISSION'S AIM ?

I will add my thinking and invite your comments on an update to this page tomorrow.

UPDATES FOR SATURDAY 17th NOVEMBER START HERE

Make a note in your diary SUNDAY 13th January 3pm.

Let's get together all who would be willing to join a team to start the smile epidemic. Meet at my home, for afternoon tea and a brainstorm session. We can chat about the ideas I will share with you and see who would like to be involved and at what level.

PAUL is doing a great job promoting The Geriatric DJ - he has some amazing ideas which will really take things
forward.  LISA will manage our Facebook page - are you a member ?  CLICK HERE  We need within the PROMOTIONS TEAM as many people as we can find who will use social media to tell people about our music. We need someone who will manage press releases and build up a relationship with the media. We also need to find someone who would be willing to take over running YouTube.

LISA is to be in charge of money as Treasurer. She will also set up an e-bay shop and manage PayPal. ANDY is already doing a fantastic job collecting stuff for us to sell at the car boot sales and now the e-bay shop. We need to build a team of boot sale helpers who will help out on an occasional basis.

RADIO LOVE is where we will take music out into the community to support good causes.

We need someone who will manage this area of our work with an event every four or six weeks.

While we have a vast vinyl collection and a traditional disco twin deck the thinking is to find about ten local mobile disco operators who would be willing once a year to do a freebie and play music at an event.

The aim of every note of music we play is to: To play music to make people smile, be happy and to inspire support for good causes. At the moment we support:
  • The Food Bank
  • MK Soup Run
  • Ronald McDonald House Birmingham
  • Sheffield Wednesday FC
  • Blood and Organ Donation
  • Helping MK Homeless
  • Toilet Twinning
  • Sunshine Smile Day

I am hoping that STEWART will take charge of our good cause area of the music. We need to build round Stewart a team where every single cause we support has its own manager. The manager will be the point of contact for the good cause and in overall charge of the support we generate for that cause.

There is one other area which we would like to develop - it's
a BIGGIE so let's leave that until the next update.

Blog readership yesterday was good.

Let's close with Number 8 in the chart.
