Saturday 19th May 2018....
8am to 5pm......
ASDA superstore....
Bletchley....
Milton Keynes.....
We have been changing the plan ! We have been widening the smiles. This blog shares the new planning with all taking part.
The weather forecast for Saturday 19th May is OK. With a Plan B to move inside the supermarket we are going to set up in ONE single place outside at the food hall entrance. This gives us a far bigger area to work with and enables us to offer the participating good causes a greater potential to present the work they do.
So everyone taking part please read this page.....
We do have a meeting at ASDA this morning so there may be some slight revision but this is the plan as it stands right now.
To the left of the entrance will be our sponsor's van .... Heslop's Removals. This will provide a base for the music
and a changing room. The music stage will be in front of the van.
Providing we can sort the poles out ! It's not been used for several months ! We will set up a gazebo tent at a location to be agreed with Asda.
We will be building our mountain of food in a prime position at the front of the entrance, exact location to be agreed with Asda this morning.
Our good causes can, if they wish, set up SMALL tables to decorate and use as bases to promote their work.
RACHEL will be in overall charge of the day.
RACHEL and JOSH will provide hospitality for the mayor
and poet laureate.
BEN will be in charge of the sound stage.
JELENA will be in charge of front of house activities.
MAGGIE will be in charge of the food bank collection.
DAVID will be in charge of the collecting buckets and photography.
TERRI will coordinate special activities.
CHARLOTTE will be in charge of the sponsored haircut.
We will start setting up at six thirty. It is IMPORTANT that all particpiting good causes are set up and ready to run by
7.45am.
Our food mountain will be running all day. We need to kick start this with at least one hundred tins so
PLEASE will to help by donating a tin or two AHEAD of Sunshine Smile Day.
NO OBLIGATION but it would be nice if each group brought along a couple of tins at the start of the day. PLEASE.....
Ronald McDonald House Charities, specifically the Birmingham House is our lead charity for the day.
ADSA has a £200 cheque for the house from its Green Token Scheme. This will be added to the collection of cash for the charity. The plan is for Asda to present it to the Mayor at 11am. We will today contact the local branch of McDonald's and ask if they would like to send a representative along to receive
the cheque with the mayor.
This coin spinner has to be collected from the Westcroft branch of McDonald's at half past six then returned at the end of the day. WE NEED SOMEONE TO HELP OUT WITH THIS JOB. Please could you do this ?
BEN will be overseeing the sound stage and has arranged
for a disco to provide the music. Much of the music, we have decided, will be rock and roll. OK this goes back a few generations but it is fun, happy and smiling people friends of ALL ages will enjoy.
GARY has a stage we could use as an alternative to the one we plan to borrow from West Bletchley Community
Centre. Ben, could you decide which you would like to use.
We will take along our vinyl deck as a back up and something we can use for a PA.
Throughout the day Jelena will be looking after a variety of events.
We will be handing out balloons and sweets. We will be handing out Radio Love International fliers.
We need donations of sweets to hand out. (Please make sure sweets are individually wrapped.)
As well as the balloons we will blow up with AIR we have some special balloons which we will inflate with helium.
We have one special LOVE balloon. All of these will have Sunshine Smile Day logos attached.
At 4pm we plan to let these rise into the sky.
Throughout the day we will be holding a cake raffle. This will also be drawn at 4pm.
Red Bull F1 Racing have given us a cap autographed by drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen. Wings For Live, the chosen charity of Red Bull,
have given us a tee shirt and a few other bits and pieces. We will be selling raffle tickets for these during the day. This raffle will also be drawn at 4pm.
After serving our community for eighteen years Gladstone Mckenzie lost his seat on the council at the recent election. As a THANK YOU to Gladstone for all of his loving hard work over the years we will be asking hin to draw the two raffles and release the balloons.
As well as the rock and roll music we will be inviting local musicians to take to the stage and entertain Asda's shoppers.
The rock and roll music will change style at 11am when our city's mayor arrives.
Collecting buckets will be out and about all day. At the end of the day our featured good causes will receive EQUAL shares of the cash the kind shoppers at Asda toss in.
With the larger area now available to us ALL of our chosen charities can use ALL of the day to promote what they do. Charities are invited to bring along a small table to use as a base. Please decorate our table and make it attractive. Although ALL charities can promote themselves ALL day we will still keep the slots where they can use the music stage to tell people what they are about.
