Be there or be square !
This is track number THIRTY SIX on the playlist.
DISCO comes from the 1970's and is still alive with music today but the music in a disco is NOT confined to the 1970's alone - we will be playing dates from well before the
1970's, this is from the early part of the twentieth century.
One person who will be there throughout the disco is BEN - Ben the teddy bear.
Thrown out with a pile of rubbish, homeless and unloved, destined for the bin men and burial in a landfill site Ben was rescued and became the mascot for all the music The Geriatric DJ play. He is a mascot of LOVE.
The Disco is celebrating TEN THOUSAND POUNDS raised for Milton Keynes Winter Night Shelter which cares for our homeless and rough-sleeping friends. Coming to the end of its current season, The Milton Keynes Winter
Night Shelter is now putting into place funding for next season.
That TEN THOUSAND POUNDS has been raised by a 24 hour football match happening immediately before the disco.
Both Ben and The Geriatric DJ will be there at the football for the full twenty-four hours.
From 10am on Sunday to 2pm they have the great honour of looking after The Barclays Premier League Trophy.
You are invited to come to the football and take a selfie with the trophy. Make sure you bring a scarf for the football club you support. Ben and The Geriatric DJ will be wearing a Sheffield Wednesday scarf.
Back to the disco.....
Every track, there are 255 on the playlist, will be dedicated to someone. To the supporters of Milton Keynes Winter Night Shelter, to those who will be at the football and there is a track for every show and presenter on Radio CRMK.
The Geriatric DJ first appeared on CRMK as a guest, appearing on MK Today hosted by Mike Barry and Bob Bluffield. This is their track in the disco.
We have some fun spot prizes for a lucky draw during the disco. The names of every show and every presenter on Radio CRMK have been entered into this lucky draw. Among the prizes we have an autographed copy of EDDIE THE EAGLE DVD, autographed by Eddie himself. Eddie has also given us two signed photographs.
We have a painting produced by a homeless and rough-sleeping young lady.
Milton Keynes has the highest proportion of under 25 year old rough-sleepers in the country.
This is blog edition number seven hundred and sixty-seven.
After taking many, many photographs at the football the Geriatric DJ will start writing a blog during the disco, updating it through the full fourteen hours of the party with pictures
from the football. As a two hourly podcast from the disco is published so the blog will be updated.
This next track will be the last piece of music to be played at the disco. Hardly a piece of dance music it is, in the opinion of The Geriatric DJ, the greatest piece of music ever written.
Are you living your life like a BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER ? Will you bring your bridge to Milton Keynes Winter Night Shelter and the work it is doing.
Will you let your love flow ?
COME TO THE DISCO - BE THERE OR BE SQUARE !
